A bulldog statue that has been the pride of a Palmerston North truck yard for 45 years was stolen this week.
The statue was ripped off from MTD Trucks on Malden St last Monday, according to local police.
MTD Trucks general manager Murray Sowerby is gutted about the loss, and describes the statue as being around 1.5m tall by 1m wide.
"It's been on our premises for 45 years and on the rock out [the front] for about eight years.
"It used to be on the roof before that."
Sowerby says the culprit cut a hole in the yard’s fence, walked in and removed the statue through it.
The yard will be getting a replacement statue but due to it being a Mack figure the staff had to order it from overseas, says Sowerby.
"It's inconvenient. There will be quite a cost to it, that's for sure. It's frustrating."
He says that they want the figure back, but it may be hard to find as the culprit is unlikely to just leave the figure out for all to see.
Police confirmed the statue had been stolen and say they are investigating.
