NZ’s Largest road transport industry event of the year postponed

The annual Mobil 1 Delvac NZ Road Transport Hall of Fame – set to be held at Bill Richardson Transport World in Invercargill on Friday 2 October – has been officially pushed back until Friday 13 November.

TW Events & Incentives event manager Adam Reinsfield says trying to deliver an event so close to the Government’s expected announcement regarding COVID-19 levels, due on 14 September, was the catalyst behind the decision to reschedule.

“We have so many attendees travelling to be at this event, and we didn’t want to have to change it just days beforehand should a decision to remain at Level 2 be announced. We wanted to make the call early, to minimise the disruption to our guests,” he says. “Unfortunately the events industry is operating in an incredibly challenging environment right now, and until there is more certainty we didn’t want to derail people’s plans at the very last minute. We’re disappointed we have had to reschedule, but we’re focusing on delivering a fantastic event for the road transport industry on 13 November.”

The Mobil 1 Delvac NZ Road Transport Hall of Fame, the brainchild of HWR directors Jocelyn and Scott O’Donnell, is normally attended by more than 500 people from throughout the Australasian road transport industry. However, with national borders closed for the foreseeable future, this year’s event is set to be a slightly more intimate affair.

Proceeds from the gala dinner and auction on the night benefit the Proactive Drive Youth Driver Education Trust, which supports driver education training for young New Zealanders.

Jocelyn O’Donnell says while the gala dinner has been postponed, the 2020 event will retain its essence: celebrating the outstanding contributions made by Kiwis to the national road transport industry.

“While it’s disappointing to have had to make this call, we think it’s the right one. We’re looking forward to coming together as an industry to honour those who have devoted considerable time and energy towards bettering our industry for generations to come. This year’s inductees have been selected, and while we have to wait a little bit longer, we’re excited to welcome our industry friends to the south on 13 November,” she says.

“Challenging times like those we have experienced in 2020 highlight how important it is to have strong partnerships and friendships in life. We have to say a huge thank you to the sponsors of the Mobil 1 Delvac NZ Road Transport Hall of Fame and ask that our attendees continue to support them too.”
