Isuzu Unveils Upgraded GIGA Truck with Industry-First Safety and Connectivity Features

Isuzu Motors Limited has announced the launch of its upgraded GIGA heavy-duty truck, a model poised to redefine industry standards with a host of advanced safety and connectivity features. Set for its world premiere at the JAPAN MOBILITY SHOW 2025, the new GIGA introduces a striking cab redesign and groundbreaking technologies aimed at enhancing driver support, operational efficiency, and accident prevention.
In a move to combat the rising number of wheel separation accidents, Isuzu has become the first automobile manufacturer in Japan to equip all GIGA vehicles with a "Wheel Detachment Prediction Detection System" as a standard feature. This innovative system monitors rear axle wheel nuts and alerts the driver with a message and buzzer if it detects loosening, providing a critical early warning before a separation can occur.
Beyond this industry-first, Isuzu has significantly enhanced the GIGA's active safety suite. The Pre-Crash Brake (PCB) system can now detect pedestrians when the truck is turning right or left at intersections. Additionally, a new braking function helps prevent collisions with cyclists moving in the same direction during left turns, while Lane Keep Assist (LKA) has been upgraded with a side collision avoidance function to aid during lane changes.
The upgraded GIGA also debuts Japan's first "body connected service," a system that allows for remote monitoring of the entire vehicle, including both the chassis and the cargo body equipment. Leveraging Isuzu's MIMAMORI telematics and the GATEX commercial vehicle information platform, this service transmits data from the vehicle and body, allowing customers to monitor conditions like refrigeration unit status through a web interface. This integration aims to minimize downtime and enable faster response times.
The truck's exterior has been redesigned under the theme "THE ULTIMATE," expressing a smart and dynamic presence befitting a flagship model. A new grille featuring the "World Cross Flow" motif creates a stronger family identity with Isuzu's ELF and FORWARD truck series. The lineup has also expanded, with new additions like a G-Cargo low-bed truck featuring an energy-saving package for improved fuel efficiency.
With a target sales volume of 12,000 units annually for the entire GIGA series, Isuzu aims to support customer business operations while pushing forward the practical application of future autonomous driving technologies.
