Mack Trucks Australia and Oceania on the hunt for new leadership
Posted: 05-Nov-2026 |
Mack Trucks Australia and Oceania could soon have a new name at the top of the organisational chart, following the resignation of long-serving Vice President Tony O’Connell.
O’Connell confirmed his departure in a LinkedIn post, announcing his decision to resign from his position as Vice President of Mack Trucks Australia and New Zealand after more than 20 years with Volvo Group.
His departure marks the end of a lengthy career with the organisation, during which he progressed from starting out as a parts interpreter in Darwin to becoming one of the senior executive figures within Mack Trucks’ Australasian operation.
Appointed to an executive leadership role in 2012, O’Connell’s career also included major business projects, international assignments in Sweden and Malaysia, and extensive involvement with the company's dealer network, customers and business partners.
Reflecting on his time with Volvo Group, O’Connell said he was proud of what had been achieved and particularly grateful for the people he had worked alongside throughout his career.
While no details have yet been announced regarding his successor, the departure leaves a significant leadership position to fill within Mack Trucks’ Australian and New Zealand operations.
O’Connell has indicated that he intends to share details of his next career move in due course, suggesting this may be the end of one chapter rather than a departure from the commercial vehicle industry altogether.
For now, Mack Trucks and Volvo Group face the task of finding a new leader to steer the brand through an increasingly competitive heavy transport market across Australia and New Zealand.
