Michelin Issues Precautionary Recall for X Multi Z and X Line Energy Z Truck Tyres
Posted: 19-Feb-2026 |
Michelin has announced a proactive recall of specific heavy‑vehicle tyres after identifying a potential manufacturing issue that could lead to a rapid loss of air pressure. The recall affects Michelin X Multi Z and X Line Energy Z tyres in size 355/50R22.5 with a 156K load/speed index.
According to Michelin, the issue involves the possible development of a circumferential crack in the sidewall near the bar code field. While no instances of pressure loss have been reported, the company has opted for a precautionary recall to ensure driver safety.
Drivers and fleet operators are advised to check whether their tyres fall within the affected manufacturing period. Tyres with Department of Transportation (DOT) codes ending in numbers 0123 to 0825—representing production dates from week 01 of 2023 through week 02 of 2025—are included in the recall.
The recall applies only to tyres marked:
- 355/50R22.5 X Multi Z
- 355/50R22.5 X Line Energy Z
Both identifiers are stencilled on the tyre sidewall.
Michelin confirmed that the tyres were sold across several New Zealand retailers between 2023 and 2025, including Advantage (multiple locations), Tartan Tyres, SuperTyre, TyreConnect, Keller Tyres, and others, with exact sale dates varying by store.
What Drivers Should Do
Tyre owners can perform a self‑inspection using Michelin’s guidance:
- Locate the bar code field next to the serial number.
- If no crack or rubber lip is present, the tyre is safe to continue using.
- If a crack or rubber lip is found, the tyre must be replaced.
Those uncomfortable performing the inspection themselves are encouraged to contact the Michelin dealer from which they purchased the tyre. Michelin representatives are available to assist, and replacements can be arranged when necessary.
Michelin emphasises that the recall is precautionary, reiterating that no tyre has experienced pressure loss to date.
