Overnight closure on Sunday for stretch of SH3, Tariki
Posted: 25-Jun-2026 |

A stretch of SH3 between Johns Road and Surrey Road will close on Sunday (28 June) overnight for the second stage of asphalt resurfacing work.

Earlier in the month, crews completed the first stage of this work and are now returning to complete the second and final stage.

Asphalt resurfacing involves digging up the existing road material and replacing it with new asphalt to improve the condition of the road.

Asphalt can be used during winter months as it is less sensitive to temperature than other surfacing treatments such as chipseal.

To complete the work as safely and efficiently as possible, the work will be completed under a full road closure between 7pm Sunday 28 June and 5am Monday 29 June.

Outside of these hours, SH3 will be open with a temporary speed limit in place until the work is complete.

Please plan your journeys to take the closure into consideration. The alternative state highway route is State Highway 45 (SH45).
