Wire Rope Barrier Maintenance On SH1 Hampton Downs To Rangiriri

Maintenance on the wire rope barrier on State Highway 1 (SH1) between Hampton Downs and Rangiriri is coming up soon, which will mean one-way closures and lane restrictions at night for road users. 

The work is expected to take one and a half weeks, from Sunday 7 December to Thursday 18 December between 9pm and 5am (excluding Friday and Saturday nights).

Work programme and detours: Sunday 7 December: Full southbound closure with northbound lane restrictions between Te Kauwhata and Rangiriri. (Contingency date Monday 8 December.) Southbound traffic will need to follow the detour via Rodda Rd, Te Wharepu Road, Murphy Street, Churchill East Road and back on at SH1 using Rangiriri southbound on-ramp.

Monday 8 – Thursday 11 December: Full southbound closure with northbound lane restrictions between Hampton Downs and Te Kauwhata. (Contingency date Sunday 14 December.) Southbound traffic will need to follow the detour via Whangamarino Road, Paddy Road, Summertime Lane, Hall Road and Rodda Road.

Sunday 14 – Thursday 18 December: Full northbound closure with southbound lane restrictions between Te Kauwhata and Hampton Downs. Northbound traffic will need to follow the detour via Rodda Road, Hall Road, Summertime Lane, Paddy Road and Whangamarino Road.

The detour between Hampton Downs and Te Kauwhata is suitable for both light vehicles and heavies. Over dimension vehicles will need to be escorted through the worksite when it is safe to do so.
