The New Zealand new truck market continues at a slow pace with monthly registrations for February being 15 units behind the January numbers.

According to NZTA provisional registration data there were 270 trucks (with a GVM of 4.5 tonnes-plus) registered in February, almost identical to last year’s 271 registrations in the same month, but well behind the record 475 registrations from February 2024.

The latest registration data reveals that new trailer registrations also remain slow. There were 73 registrations in February, a slight lift from the January total of 67.

The best February on record was 2024 with 133 new trailer registrations while the 2026 YTD (Jan-Feb) total of 140 is exactly half the record volume of 280 set in the same period of 2024.
