The monthly registrations for new trucks (above 4.5t GVM) is well down on the total of 367 achieved in July 2025.
And with 2035 registrations year-to-date (YTD), the 2026 market is now 4.4% behind the 2,126 sales in the same period last year – a reflection of challenging conditions in the New Zealand economy.
But there is a positive trend in the trailer market with 91 registrations in July, up from 82 in July 2025. The YTD tally of 569 trailer registrations is now 3.4% ahead of last year – but still 44.05% down on 2018 year-to-date record total of 1017 trailers.

Fuso ranks as the top-selling truck brand in July with 57 new registrations ahead of Hino with 36 and Isuzu with 33 registrations.
Isuzu remains the overall truck market leader with 355 units YTD and a market share of 17.4%. Hino and Isuzu are closely matched on 274 and 262 respectively.
Scania (216 TYD/32 July) remains in fourth position ahead of Volvo (144/14), Iveco (124/9), Mercedes-Benz (120/15), Kenworth (93/17), UD (79/10), and DAF (74/7) completing the top-10 brands.
In the 3.5-4.5t crossover segment Fiat (164/15) holds the top spot ahead of July leader Mercedes-Benz (116/39). LDV (95/27), Ford (37/6), and Volkswagen (30/0) are next.
The 4.5-7.5t category is slightly ahead of the same period last year – up by five units to reach 565 registrations.
Isuzu (112/4) leads the segment while a big month for Fuso (92/27) secures second place, moving ahead of Hino (75/8). Iveco (74/2), Mercedes-Benz (56/4), and Foton (46/7) are next.
Isuzu (140/18) also continues as clear favourite in the 7.5-15t division, extending its leadership ahead over Fuso (80/10) and Hino (77/8). Foton (19/4), Hyundai (14/0) retain their places in the top-five.
In the 15-20.5t segment, Hino (31/2) continues to lead over Isuzu (21/3). July leader Fuso (16/5) is third ahead of UD (11/2) and Iveco (10/2).
The small 20.5-23t segment sees Hino (6/0) now sharing the top spot with Scania (6/2). Scania and Sinotruk (1/1) were the only brands to register trucks during July.
In the premium 23t-maximum GVM division, Scania (205/30) stands firm in the number one position, well ahead of Volvo (143/14). Kenworth (93/17) retains third ranking while Hino (85/18) moves ahead of Isuzu (80/8). Fuso (74/16) gains two positions, climbing ahead of DAF (72/7) and UD (66/8). Mercedes-Benz (62/10) and Iveco (37/5) round out the top-10.
The trailer market continues to see Fruehauf (94/8) leading the registrations YTD while Patchell (63/10) remains in second place. Roadmaster (51/11) is third with the highest registrations for the month.
Transport Trailers (30/7) moves into fourth ahead of TES (28/3) and Domett (26/2) while Fairfax (25/1) and TMC (25/4) are tied in seventh. Transfleet (18/3) moves ahead of M.T.E (17/1) to round out the top-10.
