Plan Ahead For Further SH73 Work

Work on a key bridge link is complete, but those travelling on State Highway 73 between Christchurch and the West Coast should be aware of other work underway that may extend their journeys over the coming days.

This morning resurfacing was successfully completed on Kellys Creek Bridge, between Otira and Jacksons, following an overnight closure.

SH1 Onewa Road Gantry Removal Easter – Heavy Vehicles Take Western Ring Route

On Easter Monday (6 April 2026) between midnight and 5am, heavy vehicles will not be able to travel north on State Highway 1 (SH1) after the Auckland Harbour Bridge.

Electronic signage will instruct heavies to take State Highway 16 (SH16) and State Highway 18 (SH18) Western Ring Route, while we remove a sign gantry on the north end of the bridge by Stafford Road.

This week, Transporting New Zealand has been closely monitoring updates on fuel prices and fuel security, including attending a special meeting of the Freight Advisory Council along with transport bodies covering road, air, and sea transport.
