Work on Second Ashburton bridge underway

Construction of the long-awaited second Ashburton Bridge has begun, Transport Minister Chris Bishop and South Island Minister James Meager have announced. 

“A second crossing over the Ashburton River is going to be a game changer for residents moving around and through the Mid Canterbury town. A common concern raised by our members is the uneven playing field across the industry due to the number of what I’ll describe as rogue or dodgy operators.

Closures required for State Highway 6 O’Sullivan’s Bridge strengthening

O’Sullivan’s Bridge on State Highway 6 in Tasman is in line for strengthening work with contractors onsite soon to begin site preparations before road closures begin in early June.

From Monday, 25 May stop/go traffic management will be in place on State Highway 6 at O’Sullivan’s Bridge from 7:30 am until 5:30 pm on weekdays.

Contractors will begin conducting site measurements on the 122 metre long, 52-year-old bridge.
