New Zealand's most ambitious road maintenance project ever undertaken is now drawing to a close. 119 lane kilometres of State Highway 1 (SH1) have successfully been rehabilitated or resealed between Tīrau and Waiouru.

Transport Minister Chris Bishop expressed gratitude to truck drivers, motorists, local residents, and NZTA contractors for their patience and hard work. As an indication of how badly the works were needed, the project addressed sections of the highway that had required 5,670 pothole repairs...

Cones must stay while asphalt cures at Taupo weigh station

As work progresses on a hi-tech weigh station at Taupō, traffic will continue to be managed through works on the surrounding state highways and local roads.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA)’s plan to make the Dunedin SH1 one-way system easier to use, safer for everyone and more efficient takes its next step from today (Tuesday, 15 April). People’s feedback is welcome from Tuesday to Friday, 23 May.

First 110km/h speed limit for the South Island

A new 110km/h speed limit on the SH1/76 Christchurch Southern Motorway, came into effect on Sunday 13 April, marking a first for South Island, Transport Minister Chris Bishop and Minister for the South Island and Associate Transport Minister James Meager say.
