Isuzu has extended its run as New Zealand’s top-selling truck brand by securing an 18.2% share of new registrations (over 4.5t GVM) in 2025 and finishing the year 107 units ahead of Japanese rival Fuso according to NZTA data.

It’s the third successive year of market leadership for Isuzu since regaining the top spot from Fuso, which led the 2021 and 2022 registrations. Prior to those two years, Isuzu was New Zealand’s top-selling truck brand for 21 consecutive years.

December will see two major trafficenforcement strategies rolled-out on New Zealand roads.

The first average speed safety camera site is scheduled to be operational from December 1 and roadside drug testing will commence in the Wellington region ahead of a nationwide introduction in 2026.

Subject to the final testing, the first set of average speed safety cameras is expected to begin enforcing speeds at Matakana Road in Warkworth from December 1.

Transporting New Zealand recognised the efforts of industry high achievers, innovators, and young talent during the awards dinner held at the conclusion of its North Island Road Freight Seminar event in Napier on Saturday October 11.

The evening, sponsored by In Vehicle Camera Systems (IVCS), saw six awards presented. The number of nominations was strong, with between three and seven finalists being recognised in the various categories before the winners were announced.

Mt Maunganui’s Greg Pert received the VTNZ Supreme Contribution to New Zealand Road Freight Transport award.

The first year of operation with the Fairfax ZE refrigerated trailer on New Zealand roads has delivered some revealing data on emissions savings.

The Fairfax ZE is New Zealand’s first fully electric, VDAM-regulated, refrigerated trailer using a hybrid axle to generate electricity as a replacement for a diesel generator to power the refrigeration unit.

The technology has been developed in a collaboration between Fairfax, Transcold, and Transpecs.

The first adopter of the Fairfax ZE was Foodstuffs North Island. Over the last year its ZE trailer has clocked up more than 1,000 hours on the road and saved 8,226 kilograms of CO2 emissions in the process.

Two Board appointments were confirmed at the annual meeting of Transporting New Zealand in Napier on October 10.

Shona Robertson of Heriot-based Road Transport Logistics has been elected to the Board of the national road freight association and Brett Hamilton of Southern Milk Transport was also re-elected for his fifth year serving on the Board.
